UCL club ‘will try’ and negotiate with United over 5 G/A attacker, but it won’t be ‘easy’

When Manchester United’s 2023/2024 campaign draws to a close, the club hierarchy will have their work cut out in deciding the futures of numerous out-of-favour players.

One, of course, is Jadon Sancho, who will return to Old Trafford in June following his half-season loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.

It came after his notorious fallout with Erik ten Hag last September, which saw the player ultimately exiled from all first-team action and facilities for refusing to apologise to his manager when he’d insinuated that he was a liar.

Reports have suggested that Sancho is willing to play the long game with his Red Devils career as, judging by recent results and the fact that United are now mathematically ruled out of the top-four race, Ten Hag’s tenure could well be cut short by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co this summer.

The 24-year-old would then hope to pick up where he left off in M16, although he’d certainly need to oversee a drastic improvement in form compared to the performances we’ve seen from him so far.

Assuming the Dutch boss is still at the reins when the new term kicks off, Sancho will expectedly be sent elsewhere, whether it be another loan or a permanent deal. The latter could prove difficult in terms of determining a price tag given that United will recuperate nowhere near the £73 million they paid for him back in 2021.

Dortmund keen on keeping Sancho long-term

As such, Dortmund have concrete interest in making their former player’s move permanent this summer. He has scored three times and assisted twice since he made the switch to the Signal Iduna Park in January and will hope to play a pivotal role in the side’s Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Dortmund will ‘try to negotiate’ a deal with United, however, it won’t be ‘easy’.
