Atalanta ran riot away to Eintracht Frankfurt with Ademola Lookman, Ederson and Charles De Ketelaere to win on Raffaele Palladino’s Champions League debut.
New coach Palladino made his debut in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Napoli following Ivan Juric’s dismissal, but this was his first ever Champions League game as a coach. Giorgio Scalvini and Mitchel Bakker were the only absentees, while Eintracht missed Hugo Larsson and Can Uzun. The Germans earned a 0-0 draw away to Napoli last time, when Antonio Conte accused them of using Catenaccio tactics.

Curiously, these two clubs have been twinned since 2000 when groups of fans met by chance at a train station and became firm friends. Although they often visited each other’s games and had two friendly meetings, this was the first competitive match between the teams.
Marco Carnesecchi pushed a shinned Jonathan Burkhardt effort over the bar and Robin Koch nodded wide from a promising position on a corner.

Atalanta were so unlucky when hitting the same base of the upright twice in 30 seconds on 35 minutes. First Ademola Lookman skinned two defenders with a delightful turn only to thump the post from just inside the area, then the move continued and Scamacca swept onto the exactly same spot from 12 yards.

Davide Zappacosta threw himself in the path of a Mario Gotze strike, but Atalanta were pushing hard after the restart and finally took the lead.
Charles De Ketelaere floated a cross from the right to find Lookman unmarked at the back post for a delicate volley off the inside of the boot.

Just two minutes later, it was 2-0 for La Dea, as Lookman started the move from inside his own half, completed a give and go, then rolled across from the left with a perfectly weighted pass for the Ederson tap-in.

Eintracht Frankfurt crumbled and conceded a third, as Scamacca smashed an effort against the crossbar, but De Ketelaere was ready to turn in the rebound.
