UCL Fantasy: Bundesliga players to consider

BAYERN MUNICH

Manuel Neuer (€6m) remains the undisputed number one for the Bavarian giants. He has a formidable penalty-stopping record and since kept two clean sheets in 3 Bundesliga matches so far this season. However, I would consider his price a tad expensive plus a free-scoring Chelsea are their first opponents.

In defence, Dayot Upamecano is arguably the pick of the bunch for Bayern Munich coming in at €5m. With ball recoveries a handy route towards points in the UCL Fantasy game, Upamecano ought to return nicely in that department. Josip Stanisic provides a slightly cheaper access point at €4.5m, but his place could be under threat when Alphonso Davies returns from injury.

With Jamal Musiala sidelined, one name stands above all in midfield and that is Michael Olise (€8m). The 23-year-old has already chipped in with 3 goals and an assist in 3 Bundesliga outings so far. At €6m, Joshua Kimmich offers a cheaper route into their midfield and will be expected to recover lots of ball and take some set-pieces. Serge Gnabry (€6.5m) has also netted 2 goals and 2 assists in domestic action, with the 30-year-old rediscovering his best form

Harry Kane (€10.5m) needs absolutely no introduction with 86 points from 11 goals and 2 assists in last season’s Fantasy UCL campaign. The Allianz Arena is no easy place to go - even for Chelsea - and Kane already has 5 goals and 3 assists in the Bundesliga to date so he's in red-hot form.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Gregor Kobel is without doubt one of the pillars of this Dortmund team and comes in at a very reasonable €5m price point. The Swiss shot-stopper finished fourth in the UCL Fantasy goalkeeper rankings with 46 points. BVB's fixtures are on the kinder side, potentially making him a set and forget option for this groupstage.

Nico Schlotterbeck (€5m) is sidelined and won't be back soon, but Waldermar Anton offers a cheap route into the BVB backline at €4m and can be a threat from corners. Daniel Svensson (€4.5m) or the in-form Yan Couto (€4m) would be my choice if you prefer more attack-minded options.

Dortmund's midfield doesn't exactly scream points in this fantasy game but Karim Adeyemi (€7m) could be worth consideration. He seems to thrive on European nights as he scored 5 goals and provided 1 assist in the UCL last season. Beyond that, the pickings are slim with perhaps the tricky feet of Carney Chukwuemeka (€5m) worth watching to see if he can force his way into Kovač's plans.

Serhou Guirassy (€8m) has amazingly remained at a very reasonable price despite being the competition's joint-top scorer with 13 last season. The Guinean striker has already bagged 4 goals in 3 games in the 25/26 Bundesliga. He will be the first choice when fit and available.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN

A lot has changed at Leverkusen in the space of 12 months and the goalkeeper position is no different. Mark Flekken will be Kasper Hjulmand's first-choice and costs exactly €5m. Leverkusen's fixtures are good either side of a tricky run between Matchday 3 to 6 where they face PSG, Benfica and Man City.

Alejandro Grimaldo (€6m) is the standout name in Leverkusen’s rearguard. His share of 2 goals and 1 assist already in the Bundesliga tells you all you need to know, while also boasting a lethal freekick technique. Edmond Tapsoba or Jarell Quansah (€4.5m, each) would be my preferred cheap route into the defence, but you will lose out on potential attacking returns.

Into the control room and there is one name that is immediately missing ‘Die Werkself’. Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool this summer but fear not as his replacement has been found. Malik Tillman, valued at €6.5m, takes over the German's vacant role and clearly boasts an attacking threat having scored 12 goals for his former employers PSV Eindhoven last season.

Up top, look no further than Patrik Schick who comes in at a €7m price point. The Czechia striker is trigger-happy with his shooting, exemplified by his 21 goals in 31 games in the 24/25 Bundesliga. The 29-year-old looks sharp this campaign too, bagging 3 goals in as many outings domestically.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

Frankfurt returns the Champions League for the first time since the 2022/23 season and face Galatasaray to start their campaign. If you are looking for a cheap goalkeeper, then Michael Zetterer (€4m) could be your man. The 30-year-old has taken over from Kevin Trapp and has averaged 3.4 saves per 90 in his opening three Bundesliga games.

Club captain Robin Koch ought to be irreplaceable in Frankfurt's defence at €4.5m. The centre-half featured in 30 domestic topflight games last season scoring 3 times. Although he picked up an injury last Friday, wing-back Rasmus Kristensen (€4.5) is perhaps the optimal choice in terms of ball recoveries and attacking threat. However, it's worth noting Frankfurt have an incredibly tough schedule in Europe.

Midfield presents a couple of options with Ritsu Dōan the pick of the bunch at €5.5m and sure to start. Since joining from Freiburg, the winger has found his feet instantly chipping in with 2 goals and an assist in the Bundesliga. Can Uzun (€5m) has made a similarly bright start to their domestic campaign with 3 goals and 2 assists in 3 outings.

Leading the line is Jonathan Burkardt (€5m) who arrived from Mainz off the back of a 18 goal and 2 assist campaign in 24/25. However, it must be noted that the German marksman has yet to find his groove at Frankfurt just yet. Michy Batshuayi (€6.5m) and Elye Wahi (€5.5m) don't inspire me with hope, especially considering they will face some tough defences in Atlerico Madrid, Liverpool, Napoli and Barcelona to name a few.
