Inter had to wait deep into stoppage time to grab the winner in their Champions League match against Young Boys in Switzerland on Wednesday night, thanks to a combination of two of Simone Inzaghi’s second-half substitutes.
Here are the player ratings for a heavily-rotated Inter side after their second Champions League win on the spin.
Sommer 6 – Had the post to thank that the scores were still level in the second half. Ultimately came away with a clean sheet: Job done.
Pavard 6 – A few excellent defensive moments, a few that weren’t quite as good. Bastoni came on for him and looked that extra bit more secure (Bastoni 6.5).
De Vrij 6.5 – Took care of his direct opponent with relative comfort, although there wasn’t too much asked of the Dutchman on the night.
Bisseck 6.5 – Some outlets in Italy rated him as Inter’s player of the match. Did a relatively decent job in Bastoni’s position.
Dumfries 6 – Won Inter the penalty that could have given the team an earlier lead, but had a few issues in defence and it didn’t quite click between him and Davide Frattesi.
Frattesi 5 – Not his most impressive of displays by any stretch of the imagination. Wasn’t involved in much of Inter’s attacking play and couldn’t seem to get his pass off on a few occasions.
Barella 5.5 – Also not Barella’s most memorable performance in an Inter shirt. Handed a difficult task replacing Calhanoglu, but wasn’t quite able to match the Turk’s usual high standards.
Mkhitaryan 6 – Arguably Inter’s most comfortable midfielder – he was the only one of the regular starting three playing in his usual position (Zielinski 6).
Carlos Augusto – A decent understudy to Dimarco, but the Italian showed the difference in levels when he came on and provided the assist for the game-winning goal (Dimarco 7).
Arnautovic 4 – Missed the crucial penalty and couldn’t get himself back into the game after that. Hooked after an hour and cut Lautaro Martinez’s rest early. Should have been able to get the job done himself (Martinez 6.5).
Taremi 5 – Perhaps would have looked slightly better alongside Thuram or Martinez, as he and Arnautovic did not exactly convince together. Replaced by the eventual match winner (Thuram 7).
Von Ballmoos 7; Blum 6, Lauper 6, Benito 5, Hadjam 6; Lakomy 6.5, Ugrinic 6; Virginius 5.5; Imeri 6, Monteiro 6.5; Ganvoula 5.
