Feyenoord beat Excelsior 2-1 at Stadion Feijenoord on Sunday to stay second in the Eredivisie, with Ayase Ueda striking twice after an earlier effort was overturned by VAR.

Arthur Zagre put Excelsior ahead in the 28th minute, finishing from the centre of the box after goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel launched a fast break.

Hwang In-beom went off injured late in the first half, with Bart Nieuwkoop introduced (44.).

After the restart, Ueda had a goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review (50.).

Feyenoord flipped the game in two minutes. Jordan Bos crossed for Ueda to sweep in the equaliser (58.). Moments later, Raheem Sterling slid a through ball for the Japan forward to slot the winner (59.).

Van Gassel kept Excelsior in it with seven saves, denying Raheem Sterling and Anis Hadj Moussa among others.

Feyenoord registered nine shots on target from fifteen attempts and earned nine corners. Excelsior managed three efforts on target.

Ueda is now on 22 Eredivisie goals, leading the league's scoring chart. Next, Feyenoord host Ajax. Excelsior visit Heracles.
