UEFA bans Guendouzi and Greenwood after Lyon vs Fenerbahce brawl | OneFootball

UEFA has imposed bans on Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood after a post-match brawl marred Lyon's Champions League play-off with Fenerbahce. UEFA confirmed the sanctions following incidents at the Groupama Stadium.

The confrontation erupted after the second leg on 26 August. Fenerbahce progressed to the league phase after a 1-1 draw in the first leg and a 2-1 win in France.

Guendouzi was fined €50,000 and given a four-match suspension from UEFA club competitions, with two matches suspended for one year. He will miss Fenerbahce's opening two league phase games, against Roma and Aston Villa.

Greenwood received a one-match ban with a one-year probation and a €30,000 fine for breaching good conduct rules. Fenerbahce were also fined €30,000 for lighting and throwing fireworks, €15,000 for crowd disturbances, and €50,000 for a team rules violation.

Lyon's goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira was suspended for five matches, with two suspended for one year, after he charged towards Guendouzi, an offence classed as serious assault. Lyon were fined €48,000 for throwing objects, €5,500 for lighting fireworks, €5,000 for crowd disturbances, and €50,000 for a rules breach.

Guendouzi later described his gestures to the crowd as banter, but UEFA judged his behaviour to have crossed acceptable limits of rivalry.
