UEFA Champions League: Four-goal first half leaves Slavia Prague and Barcelona locked in tense battle

Slavia Prague and Barcelona were level at 2 -2 at half time in Prague on Wednesday 21 January.

What happened in the first half?

Slavia Prague started fast at the Fortuna Arena and took the lead from corner. Vasil Kusej got the final touch at close range to make it 1-0 in the 10 minute and the home crowd lifted the tempo even more.

Barcelona then grew into the game and pushed Slavia back with longer spells of possession. The equaliser came through Fermín López in the 34 minute and the midfielder struck again in the 42 minute to complete rapid brace and flip the score to 2 - 1 for the visitors.

But the first half still had one more twist. Slavia found another goal before the interval pulling level and sending the teams into the dressing rooms at 2-2.

Key talking points at the break

  • Set pieces mattered: Slavia’s opener came from a corner situation.
  • Fermín López was decisive: two goal in eight minutes changed the match.
  • Barcelona could not kill the momentum: even after going 2-1 up , they conceded again before half-time.
