UEFA confirmed on Monday the referee appointments for the Champions League quarter-final first legs, with José Maria Sanchez Martinez to oversee Paris Saint-Germain v Liverpool on Tuesday at 21:00 and Michael Oliver assigned to Bayern Munich v Real Madrid.
Atlético de Madrid will see Istvan Kovacs again in the Champions League for the fifth time, and they have yet to win under his control. Barcelona’s experience of the Romanian is slimmer, but includes a 4-1 defeat to PSG in the 2023-24 quarter-final second leg.
Oliver, 41, has taken charge of 46 Champions League matches, showing two red cards and awarding 12 penalties. Under him, Bayern have won five of their six Champions League games, while Real Madrid have two wins in three.
Daniel Siebert’s record is more neutral for Arsenal and Sporting CP, with no defeats for either side, one match for the Gunners and two for the Portuguese club. Across 25 fixtures in the competition he has issued four red cards and given eight penalties.
Kovacs has refereed 36 Champions League matches in total, producing 166 cards, three of them red, and awarding 13 penalties.
