Marseille remain in limbo as UEFA’s financial control body weighs their accounts, a process that could result in Europa League exclusion.

According to L'Équipe, the case has been under review since 2 June, and while a decision had not been expected before Wednesday, officials were told on Tuesday it would not arrive before Thursday.

A mid-June timeframe had recently been indicated without further detail, timing that carries obvious stakes for Marseille.

The club, in significant financial difficulty, have not met the terms of a 2022 settlement agreement, and the uncertainty has so far prevented them from finalising Bruno Genesio’s arrival as head coach.

After UEFA, Marseille must also appear before the DNCG at the end of the month and expect to be subject to controls on their wage bill.
