The draw for the knockout phase of the Women's Champions League was conducted this afternoon in Nyon. Germany's two representatives advanced from the league phase as they finished in the top 12 of the 18-team competition.
Fourth-placed Bayern directly qualified for the quarter-final stage alongside Barcelona, Lyon, and Chelsea. The Frauen-Bundesliga winners will face the winners of Atlético Madrid and Manchester United in the last eight.
Atlético Madrid played against both Manchester United and Bayern in the league phase. The debutants prevailed 1-0 in Madrid, whereas Bayern drew 2-2 on matchday five after conceding a late equalizer. Bayern secured their top-four spot with a dominant 3-0 win over Vålerenga on Wednesday.
Wolfsburg missed that spot following a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last night. She-Wolves will face Juventus in the playoff round, with the second-leg to be played in Turin. The Serie A champions dropped outside of the top-four after a home defeat to Manchester United on matchday six. The winners of the tie will face OL Lyonnes in the quarter-finals.
If they reach the semi-final, Wolfsburg could reunite with Chelsea as the WSL giants await the winner of OH Leuven and holders Arsenal in the quarter-finals. Bayern’s only defeat in the league phase was against Barcelona, and there is a possibility of a semi-final tie between them. Paris FC face Real Madrid in the other playoff tie.
