UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: Players To Watch

Article image:UEFA Women’s Euro 2025: Players To Watch

The 14th UEFA Women’s Euros will take place in Switzerland between July 2nd and 27th. The tournament seems to have one of the strongest player pools that we have seen, and below we highlight some of this talent.

Perennially Good Players

With hat-tricks against European Champions, two goals against title rivals and another hat-trick while your side is down in a cup semi-final, Pernille Harder is the player you can count on. The ever-reliable Danish captain is the finest to come out of her country and goes into the tournament on 162 caps. The Bayern Munich forward isn’t the quickest physically, but her brain is. Operating as a playmaker, she is always capable of finding a pocket of space to play her teammates in or situating herself at the backpost to head crosses home. Harder can also operate as a striker if necessary. During her stint in Germany at Wolfsburg, Harder scored 104 goals in 111 games across all competitions.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto is coming off the back of a pretty turbulent end of season with PSG. Newly transferred to Olympique Lyonnais and with a clear future, France’s 6th top all-time scorer (38) will be looking to surpass Wendie Renard’s 39 goals for Les Bleues at the tournament. Katoto is the definition of a complete striker, more than capable of latching onto long balls, playing with her back to goal or finishing off chances in the box. She will be vital should France make a deep run in this tournament. Since the 20/21 season, Katoto has scored against Barcelona, netted three against Real Madrid, and five against Lyon.

Belgium are going to their third Euros this summer and The Red Flames’ record goalscorer, Tessa Wullaert, will have a part to play in how they unfold in the tournament. With 88 goals from 141 caps, it is safe to say Belgium need her to add to the tally. In a group with Spain, Italy and Portugal, composure and precision in front of goal is vital. This season, the Inter Milan forward netted thrice against AC Milan, once versus Juventus and Roma, proving herself on the Italian stage. In the playoffs for the Euros, she scored four in four legs against Greece and Ukraine, adding to her five goals against England and Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

Some Understated Players to Watch

  • Laura Freigang (Germany) Club: Frankfurt An intelligent number 10, capable of manipulating, finding space and arriving late into the box, proven by her 14 goals and 5 assists in the 24/25 Frauen Bundesliga.
  • Esmee Brugts (Netherlands) Club: Barcelona A forward converted into a left-back, the former PSV prospect tends to tuck inside, becoming an auxiliary midfielder, to control the centre. Look out for her shots from distance.
  • Eveliina Summanen (Finland) Club: Tottenham Eveliina is a one-woman midfield. Can cover vast amounts of space, allowing her teammates to get forward. Takes plenty of touches but won’t be on the ball for long.
  • Filippa Angeldahl (Sweden) Club: Real Madrid A half-space player wanting to receive the ball in between the lines and play the pass before the assist. Rarely enters the heart of the box, but can crash it or shoot from distance.
  • Thea Bjelda (Norway) Club: Vålerenga Sometimes used in midfield but mostly at right-back. Traffic often goes down the left for Norway, but when it comes to the right, expect speed and an accurate cross for the striker.
  • Andreia Jacinto (Portugal) Club: Real Sociedad A complete midfielder, press-proven and more than capable of pinpoint cross-field passes, Jacinto will set the tempo and screen the defence. 0 goals in the 24/25 Liga but 30 starts from 30 games prove her understated nature.
  • Natalia Padilla (Poland) Club: Bayern Munich A winger, left and right, who tends to hug the touchline and receive the ball to feet or is happy to have it played in behind, Padilla will cause problems within striking distance from the goal due to her crisp striking technique.
  • Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir (Iceland) Club: Bayer Leverkusen Somewhat of a maverick. Technically sound and with an eye for the spectacular, the attacking midfielder will drift into the inside right channel, trying to make something happen or be seen at the edge of the box, ready to pounce. As Iceland’s set-piece taker, she will play a vital role in their overall game.
