UEFA Women’s Europa Cup: Eintracht Frankfurt survive early scare thanks to supersubs | OneFootball

Eintracht Frankfurt knocked out Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjarðar to progress to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. The visitors stunned Frankfurt with Bermuda international Nia Christopher cancelling out the first-leg result at half-time before substitutes helped Niko Arnautis’ side to a comfortable victory.

Both Larissa Muhlhaus and Hanna Bennison scored after coming on as half-time substitutes. The former scored three goals in their unsuccessful Champions League qualifying campaign and also had a brace in the weekend's DFB-Pokal win against Karlsruhe.

Meanwhile, the former Everton, Juventus and Real Madrid midfielder Bennison finally got her first Frankfurt goal. Laura Freigang, who scored the only goal of the first leg from the spot, netted her ninth strike of the season.

Australian international Hayley Raso scored Frankfurt’s fourth second-half goal ten minutes from time as they eventually recorded a flattering victory in front of home support at Stadion am Brentanobad.

Frankfurt will entertain Frauen-Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern on Saturday before the season’s first international break. They will find out their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup Round of 16 opponents a day earlier with the draw set to be made in Nyon.
