Uganda pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025 defeating tournament heavyweight France 1-0 on Tuesday in their final Group 11 clash in Qatar.

The historic result marked Uganda’s first-ever win at FIFA youth World Cup, a milestone moment for the East African nation on the global stage.

Bogere’s brilliance seals the upset

It was James Bogere who etched his name into Ugandan football history unleashing brilliant 18th minute strike into the top-left corner to hand his team memorable victory. The French defence, so often composed was left stunned by the pace and precision of Uganda’s attack.

Group 11 drama: four team tied on points

In the other match of the group, Chile defeated Canada 2-1, creating rare four-way tie with all four team finishing on four point each.Final Group 11 standing:

  • France – 4 point (goal difference 1)
  • Canada – 4 point (0)
  • Uganda – 4 point (0)
  • Chile – 4 point (-1)

Despite their defeat, France & Canada advanced as the top two team while Uganda also qualified among the best third-placed sides to reach the Round of 32.
