Ukrainian club turn down Corinthians’ bid for Maycon, offer alternatives

Shakhtar Donetsk, from Ukraine, has rejected Corinthians' proposal for a new loan for midfielder Maycon. The Alvinegro board had approached the European club to keep the player, an important piece in Dorival Júnior’s team, aiming to extend his loan at Parque São Jorge for the fourth consecutive season. The refusal was first reported by ESPN.

According to the portal’s investigation, initially, the Ukrainian club plans to sell Maycon, estimating a value of 2 million euros (about R$ 12.35 million) for his rights. Alternatively, a new loan could be considered, but only if Corinthians settles the amounts still owed from previous agreements, negotiated in 2022, 2023, and 2024, which reportedly have not been honored.

One last alternative would be to organize a deal involving the transfer of percentages of rights of other Corinthians players, or even the exchange of a player to make it possible to keep the midfielder for 2026. The club is now studying its options, considering that a permanent purchase is a challenging scenario due to the club’s precarious financial situation.

It’s worth remembering that, currently, Corinthians’ debt is around R$ 2.7 billion – part of it linked to debts with clubs and players that have resulted in FIFA sanctions against the Alvinegro, such as the R$ 41.5 million not paid to Santos Laguna for defender Félix Torres. This debt led to a transferban, which has been active since August and prevents Corinthians from registering new players for three transfer windows.
