FC Bayern made history on Saturday evening! In the 5-0 win over FC St. Pauli, the Munich men surpassed the previous Bundesliga record of 101 goals in the 1971/72 season. FCB are now on 105 goals – and after just 29 matchdays.
Uli Hoeneß contributed significantly to that previous best, which had stood for over five decades, with 13 goals, including the 100th on the final day of the season against FC Schalke 04.
On the new record, the current honorary president commented: “In football it’s about trophies, and records are a secondary issue. But the fact that this team have broken our record of 101 goals after so many decades says a lot. It pleased me that a young lad like Lennart Karl scored the 100th goal last week – that shows FC Bayern are also equipped for the future. And the same goes for Jamal Musiala, who more than deserved the 101st goal after a long time out injured. I don’t begrudge the team and our coach Vincent Kompany this achievement at all. What I like the most is that these players don’t stop, they keep going even after the fourth or fifth goal. That’s how you break records – and most importantl, that’s how you make the fans happy, game after game.”
The FC Bayern players want to continue making their fans happy in the remaining matches of the season – in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League!
