Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has issued a massive update on midfielder Youri Tielemans ahead of this weekend’s clash against Bournemouth.

Villa are set to welcome the Cherries to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, in one of the most eye-catching Premier League games this weekend.

Emery’s side bounced back from a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend, with a win over Maccabi Tel Aviv by an identical scoreline in the Europa League.

Tielemans marked his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines in the European outing. The 2021 FA Cup winner hadn’t featured for Villa since the goalless draw against Everton in mid-September.

He had missed 10 games across all competitions and was expected to be out until late November.

However, he recovered ahead of time and picked up where he left off with an eye-catching performance in his 15-minute cameo against the Israeli outfit.

Speaking to reporters ahead of this weekend’s Premier League outing, Emery admitted that Tielemans could be named in the starting line-up to face Bournemouth.

“Very good news,” Emery said in his pre-match press conference when asked for an update on Tielemans’ fitness.

“He’s come back. We can have some players injured – we have to be ready with every player, to get our performances, when they are not, for different circumstances, but like Tielemans for his injury.

“But yesterday, he came back and he played 10 or 15 minutes, and he is progressively getting better.

“On Sunday, if everything is going well, he will be available to be with the team, and maybe he can start. It depends.”

Villa’s resurgence was halted by the defeat against Liverpool last weekend. Before that, they had won four Premier League games on the spin to put themselves back in the frame for a European spot.

Emery will hope his side can return to winning ways in the Premier League on home turf on Sunday.
