Unai Emery is aiming for a smoother summer as Aston Villa try to avoid the uncertainty that hampered their start to the season.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Villa failed to win any of their first six matches after a restricted window under Premier League and UEFA financial rules. They rebounded to finish fourth and lift the Europa League, ending a 30-year wait for a major trophy.
Emery said: “We had some troubles at the beginning of the season which, hopefully, this year we are not going to have.” “How we reacted this season, to finish in the top-five, makes sense of our way here.”
He cautioned that losing balance would be a problem, adding that he and the club found it this season. He wants supporters to keep ambition but maintain balance if targets are missed.
This is the first summer since Roberto Olabe replaced Monchi as president of football operations. The former Real Sociedad sporting director built a reputation for unearthing leading young talent and is tasked with repeating that work.
Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye is among the targets as Emery looks to add pace to his forward line. He also wants a midfielder and a defender who can cover right centre-back and right-back.
Villa have decided against triggering the £23 million option to buy Douglas Luiz, who will return to parent club Juventus.
