Rotherham United manager Steve Evans was stunned upon learning that Manchester United youngster Dan Gore had picked up a knock.

The central midfielder started his career at Burnley’s academy before being snapped up by the Red Devils in 2018. The 20-year-old emerged as one of the most promising young talents at Carrington, and even made his Premier League debut under the guidance of Erik ten Hag last season.

This term, Gore missed the first few months of the campaign with a shoulder injury, and was never included in Rubem Amorim’s plans afterwards. Hence, he made a few appearances for the club’s U21 side in the Premier League 2 before being loaned out to Rotherham in January.

The Manchester native impressed on his debut for the Millers, providing the assist for the team’s solitary goal in the 1-2 defeat to Birmingham City. Nevertheless, Gore missed the next two contests, and his manager has now come out to explain the bizarre situation.

Evans revealed that his new signing had left the training ground on Friday in a seemingly fine condition, only to later report an injury.

“He worked for two days in the team and went home from training on Friday feeling good,” said the Rotherham head coach via The Mirror. “I got a call from the medical staff to say that he’d woken up with his foot really sore.

“It’s unbelievable. We didn’t do enough in training for him to have a sore nose let alone a sore foot. Until I hear more from the medical staff as to how it’s happened and why it’s happened then it’s … maybe God will tell me when I go to sleep tonight.”

Gore already had his injury issues in the past, so this new development will certainly cause some concern at Man Utd.
