Girona were not comfortable and conceded their first defeat of the season at Montilivi. The red and white have not managed to overcome a Barça that arrived in very good dynamics to Montilivi, and that has advanced early on the scoreboard. A stumble that does not take away the upward sensations that the team had been dragging since the beginning of the season, with two consecutive victories in the last matches against Osasuna and Sevilla. Wednesday, moreover, the Champions League dream begins with a visit to PSG.
Lamine Yamal had already warned after just six minutes, and Lewandowski threatened again with a header on the quarter-hour mark. A good move by Tsygankov just after the break allowed Barça to break their dominance and Miguel finished the play with a low shot into the hands of Ter Stegen. Barça insisted again with an unmarked run into space that Balde alone against Gazzaniga defined high and, despite some timid attempts from Girona in between, Lamine Yamal ended up taking advantage of a mistake by David Lopez to get alone against Gazzaniga and advance his team. The young winger extended the lead just five minutes later, picking up a loose ball at the edge of the area and placing it at the long post with a precise shot.
Míchel Sánchez's men tried to summon their pride to react despite the adversity, and just before the break they came close to doing just that. With everything in their favor, Bryan Gil was unable to adjust well to a good low cross from Miguel, and Ter Stegen repelled it. In the next action, the same script, but this time with an aerial ball that, in the attempt to finish the Andalusian, has touched the hands of a defender. The referee whistled for a penalty and for a few moments Montilivi was close to getting back into the match, but at the behest of the VAR Múñiz Ruiz had it disallowed.
The team conceded Dani Olmo's third goal just after the restart. Gazzaniga was also right to prevent any clear action, and Tsygankov was on the verge of cutting the gap in a cross-shot that went off the post. Pedri, receiving in space, scored the fourth, and in the final stretch Stuani scored the goal of honor. Asprilla filtered for Portu, who assisted the Uruguayan for the Uruguayan to push the ball home. Girona threatened the blue and white area with some more arrivals, but the scoreboard has not moved.
