Under-16 Brazil squad called up for Montaigu Tournament

Coach Guilherme Dalla Déa announced this Tuesday (17th) the 23 athletes called up by the Brazilian Men's Under-16 National Team for the Montaigu International Tournament. The players will gather in Rio on the 25th, the date of the trip to France.

Organized since 1976, the competition has become one of the most traditional and important youth tournaments in the world. The last edition in which Brazil participated was in 2022, when the generation led by Luís Guilherme, Pedrinho, and Endrick won the championship, breaking a 38-year drought.

After winning the Copa 2 de Julho and the Conmebol Evolution League, a tournament that brought together South American teams, Dalla Déa emphasized the importance of athletes facing different football schools worldwide.

“It is a fundamental tournament for the development of our young athletes, due to the importance of experiencing different schools. Last year, they won the Conmebol Evolution League, which was our first competition, and now there is nothing better than facing these schools. And thinking about the development of the players, this tournament is very important, especially for wearing the Brazilian National Team jersey,” he explained.

National Team Schedule

In group A of the competition, the Amarelinha will face Ivory Coast, China, and France. On the 31st, they will play against the Ivorians in Les Sables d’Olonne at 9:30 AM. Next, they will face the Chinese on April 2nd at 9:30 AM, and conclude the first phase against the French on the 4th at 9:00 AM in Montaigu. All times are Brasília time.

In group B are Japan, Peru, Mexico, and Portugal. The final will be decided between the leaders of the two groups on the 6th at 8:45 AM in Montaigu.

On the same day, there will also be other direct confrontations: 2nd of Group A vs. 2nd of Group B; 3rd of Group A vs. 3rd of Group B; and 4th of Group A vs. 4th of Group B.
