Under-20: Corinthians set to sign defender formerly at Flamengo

Corinthians is close to finalizing the signing of center-back Yago Melo, born in 2007, for the club’s Under-20 squad. The defender completed his entire youth development at Flamengo, with whom he had a contract until February 2027. The information was initially published by the portal Fla Zoeiro and confirmed by Central do Timão.

At 19 years old, he can play in Corinthians’ youth categories until the end of 2028. According to Meu Timão, the player is expected to sign a three-season contract with the Alvinegro. In recent hours, Yago Melo bid farewell to the Rio de Janeiro team on his social media. The negotiation, according to TMC, did not involve any financial aspects.

According to the same portal, the club from Parque São Jorge is expected to acquire between 70 and 80% of the player’s economic rights, with Flamengo retaining 20%. Yago Melo has been integrated into the Timãozinho squad since last week and is still awaiting the registration of his contract in the CBF’s Daily Information Bulletin (BID).

At Corinthians, he will compete for a spot with Iago Machado, Guilherme Gama, Ruan Victor, Lorenzo, Rodrigo Richard, Cauã Ribeiro, and Zé Antônio – the latter was acquired on loan from Santa Cruz until the end of the season. Yago Melo played for Flamengo for approximately eight years, where, at times, he was captain in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories. In 2025, he had limited opportunities with the Rio team, playing only 13 times and scoring two goals.
