Under-20s reach the last 16 of the Campeonato Paulista

On Friday (25), São Paulo’s U-20 team defeated EC São Bernardo 2-0 and secured a place in the round of 16 of the Paulista Championship. The match was played at CFA Laudo Natel, in Cotia (SP). Renan and Guilherme Reis scored the goals that sealed qualification. The first leg had ended in a 0-0 draw.

In the first half, São Paulo had most of the possession and created the main chances. In the 14th minute, Lucyan tried a shot from outside the box, but the ball went over the goal. In the 20th, Lucca attempted a long-range finish, and the goalkeeper tipped it away.

After halftime, Júlio Baptista brought on midfielder Renan. In the seventh minute, Lucyan shot, the ball hit the post and, on the rebound, Renan opened the scoring. Three minutes later, Igão was sent off and Tricolor had to play with one man less. In the 90th minute, Juan Potes broke into the box and was fouled. From the penalty spot, Guilherme Reis converted and doubled the lead.

Tricolor’s opponent in the round of 16 has not yet been decided. Before that, the team returns to the field on October 8 against Athletico-PR at 5:30 p.m. at CFA Laudo Natel, in Cotia, for the second round of the U-20 Copa do Brasil. The tie will be played as a single match and is worth a place in the round of 16.
