Union Berlin yesterday reached an agreement with Monaco to sign German forward Kevin Volland.

As reported by Sky Germany, Union will pay an initial €4m plus a further €1.5m in bonus payments to the Principality club. Volland, who scored three and created three in 17 Ligue 1 games last season, wants to join Union and according to Florian Plettenberg, a medical has already been scheduled.

Union initiated contact with Monaco for Volland last month but now there’s been a breakthrough in negotiations. Patrick Berger further reports that the deal is expected to be finalised and official on Thursday. And as Union prepare for a Champions League campaign, the signing of Volland is a significant addition to their squad.

Volland (31) will become Union’s latest arrival following the signing of Inter’s Robin Gosens yesterday, in addition to Lucas Tousart, Mikkel Kaufmann, Diogo Leite – signed on a permanent basis – Benedict Hollerbach, Alexander Schwolow, Brenden Aaronson, Datro Fofana and Alex Kral.
