Bundesliga’s second-placed Union Berlin are set to sign Tunisian international midfielder Aïssa Laïsouni (26), according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The Ferencváros player has caught the eye of many European clubs following his remarkable all-action displays at the Qatar World Cup with the Tunisian squad and does not lack suitors. Ligue 1 clubs Toulouse and Olympique Lyonnais reportedly kept tabs on Laïdouni, who eventually chose Bundesliga for the next step of his career.
Foot Mercato add that Laïdouni, a former Angers youth product, will fly away to Berlin this afternoon to undergo his medical with Die Eiserne on Friday or Saturday. Union Berlin will reportedly pay a €4.1m fee to their Hungarian counterparts.
The outlet report that La Liga side Espanyol Barcelona might outbid Union Berlin for the signing of the sought-after Tunisian midfielder. Union Berlin are the surprise package of this Bundesliga season with only a three point deficit on giants Bayern Munich. The German capital’s club will also play a Europa-League playoff round against Ajax Amsterdam next month.
