Marc Giger was dreaming of swapping shirts tonight with a Newcastle United star he has watched from being a child.

The young Union S-G gutted this possibility has been taken away.

However, that is not the case, Fabian Schar is not ruled out anymore, he has cleared the concussion protocols that have kept him out of recent games, with the classy Switzerland international available to play tonight, if selected.

Marc Giger may yet see his dream fulfilled and get hold of Schar’s shirt after this game.

Marc Giger interviewed by Blick ahead of Union Saint-Gilloise facing Newcastle United and talking about Fabian Schar who he believes is still out injured:

“It is a real shame.

“He’s one of this country’s greatest footballers and I’ve been watching him on TV since I was a kid.

“I would have loved to meet him briefly and swap shirts.

“Maybe I can swap jerseys with Yann Sommer when we play Inter.”

Who is your role model from this generation?

Xherdan Shaqiri. As a Liverpool fan, I’ve naturally followed him closely.

And a general role model?

“Neymar. For a long time, I always watched his highlights before my games and then pushed myself with the thought: Today you’re going to play like Neymar!”

Last January, you moved to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The club is known for its progressive, data-based approach. What was your first impression after moving from Schaffhausen?

“I experienced a lot of new things. Analysis here, analysis there, analysis everywhere. Attention is paid to every little detail. In general, the pace and intensity are much higher. It’s completely different from what I experienced at GC or Schaffhausen.”

Your grandfather is Louis Giger, who founded the Gidor hairdressing chain. Your father runs the company. As the son of a wealthy family, do you also suffer from prejudice in the football business?
