Cameron Puertas is quickly emerging as one of the best midfielders in the Belgian Pro League this season. The 25-year-old has stepped into the role vacated by Teddy Teuma with ease as Union St Gilloise continue to dominate the Belgian league. Swiss midfielder Puertas grabbed his 10th assist at the weekend as Union comfortably beat Charleroi. He has also grabbed three goals in the league this season.
Puertas is fully taking advantage of the increased game time this season. Last year, in 34 games he failed to register a single assist, but did grab five goals. However, he did only start five games. In 17 matches this season he has started all but one in the league, as well as all five Europa League games. He has one goal and two assists in Europe this season.
Every year Union see a key player sold to a top European league. At the end of this season, Puertas will certainly be of interest to a number of clubs across the continent.
