Unión still undecided as Diego Armando Díaz deadline nears

Unión have yet to decide on Diego Armando Díaz as the 15 December deadline to exercise his buy option approaches. According to Radiogol.com, there have been no official contacts and the window is closing fast.

The striker’s loan runs until 31 December, but the key point is an option to buy 80% of his rights for 150,000 dollars. The figure is viewed as manageable, particularly given the same share was available for 100,000 dollars in September, a payment the club ultimately did not make.

Despite only seven days left to activate the clause, there has been no contact with his agent, Andrés Fernández. Díaz’s stance is clear, he wishes to remain at Unión provided the club are interested and coach Leonardo Madelón agrees.

One idea discussed internally is to buy his rights then loan him out in 2026 so he plays regularly. That scenario has not progressed.

For now everything is on hold. President Luis Spahn has not moved to accelerate talks despite the deadline. Unión must now choose whether to invest to keep a forward who wants to stay or let the chance pass again at a higher cost.
