Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has reportedly agreed to join Championship side Bristol City on loan for the 2025/26 season.
Vitek enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan with Austrian side BW Linz last season and there was clamour amongst sections of the Red Devil fanbase for the Czech shot stopper to be given a chance this summer by Ruben Amorim after Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir’s struggles.
However, Vitek, who stands an imposing 6’5 tall, was left out of United’s pre-season tour of the United States with both the club and player “focus[ed] on securing a move in the summer transfer window,” according to Manchester World.
The report reveals Vitek is “viewed as a player with genuine top-flight credentials” who has previous experience in the English football pyramid on loan at Accrington Stanley in the 2023/24 season.
Evidently, the belief is the 21-year-old’s development will be best served by regular minutes in goal away from United, rather than in competition with more senior options at Old Trafford.
The Championship provides the perfect environment for a young player to adapt to the Premier League as it offers comparable levels of physicality and speed to England’s top division – particularly important for a goalkeeper to become comfortable dealing with.
Bristol City finished sixth in league last season, making the play-offs but exiting in the semi-final stage at the hands of Sheffield United in a 6-0 aggregate loss.
The Robins played Plymouth Argyle on Saturday in a pre-season friendly and Vitek was spotted in attendance. Manchester World reports “official confirmation of [the loan] is expected shortly.”
Should Vitek seal his move to the Ashton Gate Stadium, the goalkeeper will become the eight player to leave United on loan this summer – with more departures in the pipe line.
– Marcus Rashford (Barcelona) – Ely Harrison (Shrewsbury Town) – Enzo Kana-Biyik (FC Lausanne-Sport) – Dan Gore (Rotherham United) – Joe Hugill (Barnet) – Habeeb Ogunneye (Newport County) – Sonny Aljofree (Notts County)
Manchester World reveals the club are also “exploring” loan moves for Harry Amass, Jack Moorhouse, Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Williams. The report states Moorhouse is expected to join League One side Leyton Orient.
Vitek appears to be highly rated by United and the club’s coaching staff will likely be keeping a close eye on his performances for Bristol City this season given the ongoing uncertainty between the sticks at Old Trafford.
