United dismal, but pundit says one Red ‘looks like he could be a real problem’ after Brighton display | OneFootball

While the rest of the first-team should be taking a look in the mirror following their dismal performances, Shea Lacey is one player who can hold his head high today.

The 19-year-old was given the nod for the first-ever time for last night’s Carabao Cup clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, and proceeded to open his account with a stellar finish just eight minutes into the tie.

Unfortunately, Lacey won’t be able to properly appreciate how his debut panned out due to the fact that United went on to squander their early two-goal lead.

Brighton got one goal back on the brink of half-time, before equalising through Pascal Gross in the 65th minute and taking the lead just five minutes later when Maxim De Cuyper found the back of Karl Darlow’s net.

It means United have now exited the League Cup at the first hurdle in back-to-back seasons, making it no surprise that Old Trafford rang out with boos once the referee blew for full-time.

How did Lacey fare in his debut?

In regard to how Lacey fared, he recorded (as per Fotmob) an 84 per cent passing accuracy, completed one successful dribble, made one pass into the final third and delivered one accurate long ball.

Defensively, the teenager made three tackles, three recoveries, one clearance and one interception.

When analysing his performance post-match on CBS Sports, pundit Ian Paul Joy said of the attacker: “Shea Lacey looks like he could be a real problem.”

It remains to be seen if Lacey’s efforts will have been deemed enough in Michael Carrick’s eyes for him to make his full Premier League debut for Sunday’s trip to face Fulham.
