Manchester United have been mulling over the future of Sofyan Amrabat ever since his temporary deal expired in June.

Across the 2023/2024 campaign, there were contrasting reports regarding whether the Moroccan would be signed as a Red long-term; he arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day last summer on a season-long loan move.

Amrabat was made to wait to make his debut due to an initial injury setback, and when he was finally granted his maiden start in a Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace in September, he was forced to deputise at left-back in the absences of Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Sergio Reguilon.

He did so for a handful of games, making it clear in his post-match interviews that he’d do whatever it takes to help the team – even if it meant playing out of his comfort zone.

Then, the scintillating emergence of young Kobbie Mainoo, along with Scott McTominay’s prolific goalscoring form and Ten Hag’s preference for Casemiro, meant there was little to no room for Amrabat to cement his place in the middle of the park. The rare time he did feature in midfield, fans weren’t convinced of his suitability for the side.

Alas, the Moroccan international ended the term having made 30 appearances in all competitions – 17 of which came from the offset.

What United have decided regarding Amrabat’s future

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that United ‘have informed’ Amrabat’s parent club, Fiorentina, that they won’t be activating his £21.4 million buy clause.

However, they’re not completely closed off to doing business. They would reportedly be willing to hash out a deal if they can discuss ‘different conditions’.

Amrabat is also garnering interest from other unnamed clubs.
