Mauricio Pochettino has dropped his clearest hint yet that a return to Tottenham Hotspur could be on the horizon.
The United States manager told French outlet L’Equipe that his connection to English football remains unbroken.
“I miss the football scene in England,” Pochettino said. “I love the country, its culture, and the football culture.
“For anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to measure themselves against others and test their limits, it’s the ideal place.”
Unlike Roberto De Zerbi, who reportedly requires Premier League safety as a condition for any move to N17, Pochettino’s apparent desire to take the reins is rooted in emotional loyalty to the club.
With his contract set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, his comments highlight a willingness to oversee a Spurs rebuild, regardless of which division they are in next season.
As interim boss Igor Tudor struggles to find a blueprint to steer his side to safety, the prospect of a Pochettino reunion offers Spurs fans a sense of tactical identity they have not had for some time.
If Spurs fail to beat the drop, Pochettino would represent a strong insurance policy.
Given his history with the Lilywhites, Pochettino’s appointment could serve as a reset button for a club that has lost its way.
