Unlucky draw for Bayern’s women’s team: Tough opponents in the Champions League | OneFootball

The opponents for FC Bayern Women in the 2026–27 Champions League season have been drawn. The Munich team faces a challenging group stage featuring several top European clubs—including defending champion FC Barcelona.

During Friday’s draw for the 2026/27 Champions League group stage in Nyon, Coach José Barcala’s team was drawn against six opponents. Particularly noteworthy: Three real showstoppers await the Bayern women at home at Sportpark Unterhaching. There, they’ll face Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. On the road, FCB will take on Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica Lisbon, and Austria Vienna.

Three Top Clubs at Home

With Barcelona, Bayern has drawn none other than the reigning Champions League champions. Last season, the Munich women were eliminated in the semifinals by the narrowest of margins. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Munich, FCB lost the second leg in Barcelona 2-4. The Catalans have already won the Champions League four times.

Manchester City is also entering the new season as the English champion. The English team has reached the Champions League semifinals twice so far. The match in Unterhaching will also feature a reunion with former Bayern players Sydney Lohmann and Vivianne Miedema.

Real Madrid rounds out the challenging home schedule. The Royals reached the quarterfinals last season and finished seventh in the group stage. For Bayern, this will be their first competitive match against the Spanish side.

The away games are no walk in the park either. Bayern’s women have had good results against Paris Saint-Germain in the past. In the last Champions League season, the FCB won 3-1 at the Parc des Princes. Back in 2023–24, they also secured a 1-0 away victory in Paris.

Benfica Lisbon is also a familiar opponent. In the 2022–23 season, Bayern won both matches against the Portuguese side. On paper, Austria Vienna is likely to be the supposedly easiest opponent, but as the reigning Austrian champions, they’re also heading into the group stage with confidence.

Bühl: “A big challenge”

Despite the challenging schedule, Klara Bühl is looking forward to the Champions League with great anticipation: “We have some incredibly good home games—truly blockbuster matches against Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Man City!” said the national team player.

“That’s the first thing that struck me right away, and I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully we’ll fill the stadium in Unterhaching and get our first Champions League season off to a great start there,” Bühl added.

The goal, however, is clear: “We have a big challenge ahead of us overall, but we want to tackle it as best we can, qualify for the top four, and make our way into the knockout stage.”

Jovana Damnjanović also struck a combative note: “Our opponents are strong, but so are we. We’ll take on every battle and every challenge, and I think we can come out on top in the group stage.”

So the goal should be clear: Despite facing tough opponents, the FC Bayern women aim to advance to the knockout stage of the Champions League and compete for the title.
