Unsportsmanlike conduct? Oranje star takes a dig at Kimmich | OneFootball

The 1-1 draw between the Netherlands and Germany continues to spark plenty of discussion even after the final whistle. The focus is on DFB captain Joshua Kimmich. Oranje star Denzel Dumfries expressed frustration after the match over the Bayern Munich player’s behavior leading up to Germany’s opening goal.

Felix Nmecha had given the DFB team a 1-0 lead in Amsterdam in the 32nd minute. Kimmich played a key role in setting up the goal. The 31-year-old initiated the attack with a precise diagonal pass.

From Dumfries’ perspective, however, this situation should never have arisen. The Dutchman apparently assumed that Germany would have kicked the ball out of bounds beforehand.

Dumfries: “We know his tricks, too.”

After the match, Dumfries described the situation from his perspective, singling out Kimmich in particular.

“The left winger, [Amiri], looked at me as if he were going to stop. He played the ball to Kimmich. We know Kimmich. He’s a world-class player, but we know his tricks, too. He kept playing, and they scored a goal. That shouldn’t happen to us; we should probably do things like that, too.”

The Inter player was particularly bothered by the fact that Kimmich continued the attack, even though Dumfries had apparently assumed the German national team would stop play.

Kimmich’s behavior annoyed the Dutchman so much that he confronted the Bayern star about it right afterward.

“But I did walk over to him to confront him, yes. Definitely. In the end, you just get the feeling that it wasn’t quite right,” Dumfries explained.

With that, the 30-year-old made it clear that he was still displeased with the incident even after the game. At the same time, he acknowledged that the Dutch might need to play more consistently themselves in a similar situation.

Kimmich himself did not initially comment publicly on the allegations after the match. On the field, the Bayern Munich pro was one of the more prominent German players. In his first international match under Jürgen Klopp, he started again in central midfield and was involved in several dangerous plays.

In the end, however, the lead wasn’t enough for a win. Cody Gakpo scored in stoppage time to make it 1–1, thus preventing a successful debut for Klopp. The verbal exchange involving Kimmich and the build-up to Germany’s opening goal is now providing additional talking points.
