Upamecano extension: Bayern trembling in the face of PSG pressure and multi-million poker | OneFootball

FC Bayern are fighting for a contract extension with defender Dayot Upamecano – but the poker game is dragging on. As explained in the latest „Bayern Insider“ podcast from BILD, the Munich club are in close contact with the central defender, but two factors in particular are putting the brakes on a decision: financial demands and pressure from Paris.

Upamecano himself recently appeared relaxed, telling France’s L’Équipe: „My agent is taking care of it. We will make the right decision.“

In the podcast, the BILD reporters clearly warn of the biggest danger: Paris Saint-Germain. Christian Falk explains: „At Bayern, they don’t have a good feeling about PSG. They can pay – especially the hand money.“

Upamecano’s advisor Moussa Sissoko is considered to be very well connected in Paris. He looks after Ousmane Dembélé, among others, and enjoys great influence in French soccer. Tobi Altschäffl emphasizes: „Sissoko is a savvy dog. He knows Real wants him, PSG wants him – he won’t put a stop sign on the price.“

In addition to PSG, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs are also said to have signaled their interest. For Bayern, this means that the competitive pressure is high – and it increases the price.

Up to 20 million per season – but the hand money remains the problem

Financially, the situation is tense. Upamecano currently earns around 16 million euros per year – and wants to add significantly to his new contract. According to the podcast, talks are heading towards a package that could reach 18 to 20 million euros including bonus payments.

Tobi Altschäffl: „This 20 million as the maximum sum – that was also confirmed to me today.“ However, the main problem remains the hand money that Sissoko is demanding for his client. Falk comments: „The fact that an agreement was reached once before and then it fell through was due to the hand money. That’s where the problem lies again.“

In sporting terms, there is no doubt: Upamecano is playing the most stable season of his career. And one decisive reason for this is Vincent Kompany.

The BILD reporters assume that the coach has the greatest influence on an extension. Altschäffl: „The relationship with Kompany is special. Perhaps he is the joker that tips the scales in the end.“

This was particularly evident after the PSG game, when Kompany emotionally embraced the central defender – a signal that Upamecano also noticed.

Another factor: Jonathan Tah. The two centre-backs get on extremely well. Falk: „Tah and Upamecano are also close off the pitch. That also plays a role.“
