In a recent segment with Last Word on Spurs, journalist Paul O’Keefe offered an update on Liverpool and their chase of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. O’Keefe said,

“The word from within Palace, my Palace contact, is saying that it’s Liverpool or bust. But he did say that Spurs’ offer to him on personal terms was ‘very, very, very good’.

“But I think it might be a case with Marc that if he doesn’t get his Liverpool move, then he’ll stay the season and see it out, then go on a free.”

Guehi’s Solid Campaign In The Premier League

The English had an impressive campaign at the London club recently after he put in a series of solid performances for them in the Premier League. Guehi featured in 44 matches for the Eagles last season, scoring three goals and earning two assists on all fronts.

The 25-year-old was a rock at the back for Crystal Palace as he made 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession inside his half after completing 83.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).

What Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Do With Regards To Guehi?

Guehi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and can play his way out from the back.

The English talent has already proven his worth in the Premier League and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Merseyside club.

Guehi would no doubt add more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at Anfield this season.

At 25, Guehi has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a dream target for the Reds to pursue in this summer transfer window, but only if he is available for a reasonable price. The English talent is on an expiring contract, so Slot might be better off waiting until the end of this season before snapping him up on a free transfer.
