Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of Manchester City defender Ruben Dias this summer. O’Rourke said,

“It does seem that there is some interest from Real Madrid in Dias, and the lure of a move to Madrid would be difficult to ignore for any player, not just him.

“It’s probably going to be a saga that will drag out into the summer, but Manchester City do not want to lose Dias.

“If Madrid get any indication that he could be prized away from the Etihad, they will try and bring him to the Spanish capital.”

Dias’ Important Role In English Football

Dias enjoyed a solid campaign at the Mancunian club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The Portugal international made 33 appearances for Man City last season, scoring two goals across various competitions.

The 29-year-old is currently one of the most experienced centre-backs in the Premier League. Thus, Man City should focus on retaining his services beyond this summer.

His current deal at the Etihad Stadium will expire in the summer of 2029. Hence, the Mancunian giants would be under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this transfer window.

Should Manchester City Cash In On Dias This Summer?

Dias is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.87m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

The Portuguese sensation excels at playing his way out from the back. Dias has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League. He remains an important member of Man City’s squad.

However, if Dias favours a move to Real Madrid, it is only fair to him for Man City to let him go this off-season. He has been a great servant to the club and deserves to go out on his terms.

At 29, Dias is playing in his prime. Therefore, Man City should consider cashing in on him if they receive a good offer for him before the end of this transfer window.
