In a recent interview, former Manchester United scout Mick Brown offered an update on the future of Sunderland centre-forward Brian Brobbey. Brown said,

“These types of deals are always difficult for a club like Sunderland.

“Obviously, in an ideal world, they don’t want to lose Brobbey because he’s done an excellent job for them and his a big part of everything they’re trying to build there.

“But say a huge offer comes in tomorrow from Tottenham or somebody like that, I think they would struggle to turn that down.

“For clubs in Sunderland’s position, the decision is about whether you think you can bring in a replacement with the money you make, or if this player is irreplaceable.

“For the right fee, nobody is irreplaceable, and every player has a price because at a certain stage the offer could be worth more than their valuation of the player.

“Then, they’d have to use that money and go out and sign a replacement, who they’d be taking a risk on whether he can be as good at Brobbey.

“So it’s a tricky situation for Sunderland to be in if these big offers start coming in. Either way, I wouldn’t expect it to happen in January, so for now there are no immediate worries.”

Brobbey’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Brobbey enjoyed a good run of form at the Wearside club in the previous campaign when he produced a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Dutch talent scored three times in six matches for Sunderland last season in various competitions.

The 24-year-old is currently among the most talented strikers in the Premier League. Hence, the Black Cats would do well to keep hold of him beyond next summer.

His current deal at the Stadium of Light will expire in 2029, so there is no immediate need for Sunderland to cash in on him next year.

What Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Do With Regards To Brobbey?

Brobbey is proficient at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has the vision to create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third and is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.

The Dutch sensation can use his strong 1.81m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side. Brobbey has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Premier League. He is currently one of the first names in Regis Le Bris’ teamsheet.

Therefore, Sunderland cannot afford to lose a player of his quality this January. With all things considered, Le Bris should only consider cashing in on him if he receives a favourable offer at the end of this campaign.
