Jonas Urbig has stood between the posts in the last two cup matches due to Manuel Neuer’s suspension. Will the youngster also be in the starting eleven for the upcoming round of 16 tie with Union Berlin? Vincent Kompany has now clarified the situation

It was already clear before the season that Jonas Urbig would take several games off Manuel Neuer’s hands this season. The FCB captain is also said to have agreed to this. Neuer had to sit out the cup recently anyway – the five-time world goalkeeper was serving a red ban from last season. Does this make Urbig the cup goalkeeper for the current season?

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was asked about this after the 3-1 win over FC St. Pauli. At the press conference after the game, he said: „Manu will be back in goal. We haven’t had any talks about a cup goalkeeper. We’ll see when we can give Jonas playing time, both are aware of that.“

Urbig’s playing time: „It’s all about the feeling“

The FCB coach then went on to say with regard to Urbig’s playing time: „I don’t have a timetable for that, it’s about the feeling. We want to push Jonas‘ integration further – and at the moment we’re happy with him.“

Kompany not only spoke about the two goalkeepers, however, but also about match-winner Luis Diaz. „Lucho has a kind of ‚chaotic creativity‘. He can always do something in chaotic situations. As a defender, I always found it uncomfortable going up against players like that because you never know whether you’re in control of the ball or he is,“ explained Kompany

Referring to Diaz’s assist before the 1-1, the Belgian also said: „He kept his head up while he was on the ground and played a great pass. He did exactly the same move yesterday in training. That’s one of his qualities.“
