Matonte has overseen three Flamengo matches. In the 2023 Recopa Sudamericana second leg, Flamengo beat Independiente del Valle 1-0 to level the tie, then lost 5-4 on penalties and finished runners-up.

He also took charge in the 2024 Libertadores group stage, when Flamengo beat Bolívar 4-0 at the Maracanã.

This season he refereed the matchday two group game with Independiente Medellín, which Flamengo won 4-1.

The second leg kicks off on Thursday 17 at 21:30 Brasília time. ESPN on pay TV and Disney+ via streaming will show the match live.

Having won the first leg 2-0 at altitude in Quito, Flamengo can afford a one-goal defeat and still reach the semi-finals, where they could face Corinthians or Estudiantes.
