The United States relaxed entry restrictions on Iran on Tuesday night, allowing the national team to arrive 48 hours before their next World Cup group match, while still requiring a same-day departure.

The US Department of Homeland Security said the team could enter the country ahead of their third group game against Egypt in Seattle on 26 June.

Team Melli will leave their base in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday to arrive two days early for the fixture, scheduled in the night from Friday to Saturday, with kick-off at five am.

Iran are playing for a last-16 place after draws with New Zealand 2-2 and Belgium 0-0.

The decision follows Iranian complaints about mistreatment by tournament organisers, including further shortened travel time and a curtailed training session. The earlier arrival window can aid their preparations for this decisive game.
