United States international Jaedyn Shaw is reportedly set to complete a $1.25 million (£921,000) move to Gotham FC from the North Carolina Courage.
The trade would set a new transfer record between National Women’s Soccer League clubs and give Gotham FC a major boost as they chase a play-off spot.
Reports state that Gotham FC will pay the fee for the 20-year-old, which is double that of the current league record.
Just last month, the Kansas City Current paid $600,000 (£442,000) to the Utah Royals for Ally Sentnor.
Shaw’s transfer far surpasses that figure and sets a new benchmark for moves within the league. However, Orlando Pride did spend more when signing Lizbeth Ovalle for £1.1m over the summer.
Ovalle though arrived at the NWSL side from Tigres in Mexico.
The Mexican’s move is one of the top 10 most expensive signings in women’s football history, and briefly held the transfer record over the summer.
Jaedyn Shaw only joined the Courage in January after leaving the San Diego Wave.
Her time in North Carolina will be brief if she does complete the move to Gotham FC. She has featured in nine league matches during the 2025 campaign.
Despite the limited run, she quickly caught attention for her technical ability and vision.
The Courage are now set to part ways with one of their most promising players less than a year after her arrival.
Gotham FC believe the investment will bring much-needed creativity to their midfield as they look to strengthen their push in the second half of the season.
Currently sitting sixth in the table Gotham FC have not been shy about their ambitions. The club will pay the transfer fee in multiple installments and Shaw is expected to sign a four-year contract.
The decision shows their determination to compete with the top teams in the league and highlights their willingness to invest heavily in young talent.
Shaw is a versatile midfielder who can influence games both through her passing and her ability to break lines with the ball at her feet. Gotham supporters will hope her arrival can spark a late-season surge as the playoff race intensifies.
Gotham FC are next in action against the San Diego Wave this Saturday, which will be a significant matchup because of the playoff implications.
Shaw’s debut should she complete the move is highly anticipated as fans look to see how quickly she can adapt and provide the spark Gotham FC need in their squad.
