A$AP Rocky could reportedly be involved in the purchase of Tranmere Rovers

Tranmere Rovers could be poised to fall into new hands, with reports revealing that world-renowned rapper A$AP Rocky is in line to feature in a shock takeover of the League Two club.

According to a recent reveal from The Sun, A$AP Rocky is part of an investment group looking to complete the purchase of Tranmere, who have been under the stewardship of ex-FA chief Mark Palilos for a decade.

Palios, who became chairman and joint-owner of Tranmere in 2014, confirmed earlier this year that Rovers had launched a search for fresh investors to support the financial growth of the club and fund a new stadium after recording "widening" pre-tax losses.

Tranmere will likely require increased investment if they are to plot a potential promotion bid in the months or perhaps even years to come. The Merseyside outfit have not featured in League One since the 2019/20 campaign, where they were immediately relegated on a points-per-game basis following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Instead, Tranmere have been forced to largely bide their time in mid-table and finished the previous season in 16th place. Indeed, that is exactly where they find themselves after eleven matches of the 2024/25 campaign, although Nigel Adkins' side have recorded just one defeat from their last five league outings.

The recent news coming out, however, will doubtless provide much-needed excitement for supporters.

A$AP Rocky in line to buy Tranmere Rovers

As per The Sun's report, A$AP Rocky is part of an investment group led by New York-based celebrity lawyer Joe Tacopina, who is currently defending the rapper in court and is believed to be fronting the takeover bid.

Tacopina is said to be using his celebrity friends to generate increased interest in Tranmere from the US, which could heighten the club's value in the event that he decides to make a future sale.

It is claimed that the group is set to purchase 80 per cent of Tranmere for roughly £15 million, which would see Palios relinquish his controlling stake in the club.

An unnamed source reportedly told The Sun: "Rocky is tight with Joe and has committed to the Tranmere bid.

"Joe has been to Tranmere matches and Rocky has plans to go over too after the deal is completed.

"Joe thinks Tranmere - a famous club, near to Liverpool - is undervalued and that by clever marketing and celebrity endorsement he can transform it. With the likes of Rocky on board, maybe so."

Meanwhile, there are suggestions that Tranmere could even have a documentary from a streaming giant. Any such proposition would replicate Wrexham, who have seen their meteoric rise up the divisions under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney documented in the Disney+ hit 'Welcome To Wrexham'.

American-based A-listers have taken a surprising interest in the investment of English Football League clubs in recent years. Hollywood duo Reynolds and McElhenney have directed Wrexham's stunning trajectory of late, which has been keenly observed by Tacopina, while NFL icon Tom Brady is also an investor in Birmingham City.

Just how involved A$AP Rocky would be in footballing and financial operations at Prenton Park remains unclear for the time being. The 36-year-old, who was born in Harlem and is among the most popular rappers in America, has a reported estimated net worth of $20 million [£15.36 million].

Rihanna could attend Tranmere Rovers games amid potential takeover involving A$AP Rocky

Should the investment group complete the takeover of Tranmere, we could even see Rihanna attending matches at Prenton Park.

Of course, the legendary singer is in a relationship with A$AP Rocky and could be keen to watch over his business interests, as per The Sun's reported source, which is claimed to have said: "We may even see Rihanna watching League Two football."

Seeing Rihanna watching matches in the fourth-tier of English football would likely leave supporters having to scratch their eyes to make sure.

However, it is easy to see how the investment and interest from serious players in the celebrity game could increase Tranmere's value and Stateside audience tenfold.

Wrexham have set the blueprint for a less-traditional route to success in the lower leagues, and it will be interesting to see just how many leaves Tranmere
