USA are in their own backyard this summer as the FIFA World Cup arrives on home soil for the first time in 32 years, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side desperate to make a statement in front of their own fans.
The United States, having automatically qualified as one of the tournament’s co-hosts, were pre-slotted into Group D.
Some veterans from the last World Cup — including forward Christian Pulisic and midfielders Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams — made the squad.
Pulisic, the face of a U.S. team preparing to host a World Cup for the first time in 32 years, provided an assist and scored in a 3-2 pre-tournament friendly win over Senegal, with Folarin Balogun netting the eventual winner in that clash — a result that provided a confidence boost ahead of the tournament proper.
The U.S. men’s national team sits in Group D at the 2026 World Cup with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey.
The USMNT holds the highest FIFA world ranking of the four Group D sides at No. 16, with Turkey next at No. 22, Australia at No. 27, and Paraguay ranked lowest at No. 40.
All kick-off times are BST.
