Two marquee friendlies headline Saturday's international window. Canada hosts Peru at Stade Saputo in Montreal at 2 p.m. ET, and the United States faces Mexico at State Farm Stadium in Glendale at 10 p.m. ET. Both matches fall under the expanded September/October window built to give national teams more prep time ahead of the next World Cup cycle.

Canada chases a second straight win

Canada comes in off a 1-0 win over Chile, its first match since reaching the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. Jonathan David scored the winner in the 12th minute, pouncing on a rebound after goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux saved a Cyle Larin shot. Chile finished the game with nine men after red cards to Lucas Cepeda and Gabriel Suazo.

Coach Jesse Marsch called in ten MLS players for this camp, including Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea and LAFC midfielder Mathieu Choinière. Ranked 30th in the world, Canada is using these friendlies to broaden its options heading into the next cycle.

Peru arrives off a 1-1 draw with Mexico, a bounce-back after a 4-1 loss to the United States. Jairo Vélez put Peru ahead in the 26th minute against Mexico before Víctor Guzmán equalized early in the second half. Orlando City's Wilder Cartagena has started both matches this window, and the squad also features Pedro Gallese and Yoshimar Yotún, former Orlando City teammates.

USMNT faces Mexico in good form

The United States enters the Mexico clash unbeaten this window, having beaten Peru 4-1 and Chile 4-2. Mauricio Pochettino has used the matches to test a younger roster. Red Bull New York forward Julian Hall scored in both games, becoming the first USMNT player to score in each of his first two caps.

Philadelphia Union's Cavan Sullivan, who just turned 17, became the fourth-youngest debutant in USMNT modern history. Orlando City forward Justin Ellis scored less than four minutes after coming on against Peru, the fastest goal by a debutant in the modern era. Pochettino's 28-man roster includes 13 MLS players, with 12 handed their first cap this window.

Mexico opened its own series with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Colombia and Peru. Gilberto Mora scored against Colombia, and Guzmán equalized against Peru. The results mark the start of Rafael Márquez's tenure as head coach, replacing Javier Aguirre, whose staff Márquez joined during Mexico's Round of 16 run. The Mexico squad includes Inter Miami's Germán Berterame, LA Galaxy's Chucky Lozano and Seattle Sounders academy product Obed Vargas, now at Atlético de Madrid.

What's next

All four federations are treating this window as a testing ground for the next cycle. Canada wants to build on the Chile result, Peru is looking to turn Wednesday's draw into momentum, the U.S. wants to keep its unbeaten run going, and Mexico is finding its footing under a new coach.

Canada and the United States meet again October 6 at Allianz Field in Minnesota, giving both camps one more look at their rosters before the next international break.
