Former Bayern Munich man Julian Green believes football can catch America’s most popular sports.

Currently, football lags behind American football, basketball, baseball and ice hockey in the States.

Green, who now plays for Greuther Fürth in the German second flight, believes that could change in the near future. Speaking to Goal and Spox, the winger made a big prediction.

“Football is getting bigger, but it’s not yet on a level with the NHL, NBA and NFL”, Green said.

“But I’m sure that will change in the next few years.”

The 23-year-old, who played at the 2014 World Cup, believes seeing young Americans succeed in Europe will elevate the sport to a new level.

“It’s a good thing that many talented Americans like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Josh Sargent move to Europe and get educated at a young age.”

Green himself grew up in Germany but holds an American passport.

He has won 15 caps for the USMNT, scoring four goals.
