A weekend of extremes for USMNT forwards saw Patrick Agyemang’s World Cup hopes shattered, Folarin Balogun dazzle and Christian Pulisic’s drought stretch on. L’Equipe notes that Lamine Camara later hailed Balogun’s strike.

Agyemang was stretchered off at Pride Park after an awkward landing late in the first half. Scans show a ruptured Achilles, ruling the Derby County striker out of the World Cup.

A day earlier, Balogun hit his 10th Ligue 1 goal in Monaco’s 2-1 win at Marseille, bursting from halfway before lobbing Geronimo Rulli. His club tally is 16 for the season, and team-mate Lamine Camara later called the finish one of the best he has seen.

Haji Wright, absent from the last USMNT camp with a groin issue, saw Coventry held by Hull on Monday. He did not register a shot on target before going off on 64 minutes, and is three without a goal after 16 in the Championship.

Brenden Aaronson converted in the shootout as Leeds edged West Ham to reach the FA Cup semi-finals, where they will face Chelsea at Wembley this month. Leeds visit Manchester United on Monday.

Milan lost 1-0 at Napoli on Sunday, extending Pulisic’s goalless run this year. He was left out of the starting XI and played only the final 21 minutes.

Monday brought cheer for Weston McKennie, who finished a sweeping counter to seal Juventus’s 2-0 win over Genoa. It moved them to within a point of Como in fourth, he now has nine goals this season and was man of the match.

Johnny Cardoso, the last American in the Champions League, must recover from a thigh injury to make Atletico Madrid’s quarter-final first leg against Barcelona on Wednesday. On Thursday, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace host Fiorentina in the Conference League.

Antonee Robinson’s Fulham host Arne Slot’s Liverpool on Saturday.
