Uzbekistan and Jordan qualify for World Cup for first time

Uzbekistan and Jordan will compete at the World Cup for the first time next summer after sealing qualification to the tournament.

The Asian nations have secured World Cup qualification for the very first time this week. Uzbekistan, ranked 57th in the world, booked their place after goalless draw with the United Arab Emirates.

Jordan, who are even lower in the FIFA World Rankings at 64th, beat Oman 3-0 to seal their maiden World Cup place. Jordan finished as runners-up to Qatar in the 2023 Asian Cup.

The duo are joined by South Korea in sealing qualification from Asia’s section and take the total of qualified teams up to 10.

Co-hosts Mexico, the United States and Canada qualified automatically, while Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and Iran have also booked their spots at the tournament.
