Valencia City Council has approved an agreement for the city’s free use of the Nou Mestalla, underpinning host-city hopes. According to AS, the decision came at Thursday’s executive board meeting.
The pact sets out how the stadium can stage major sporting events, including top-tier international athletics. It also permits official national-team fixtures by UEFA or FIFA, such as the Nations League, European Championships and World Cups, plus Copa del Rey finals.
The framework enables free municipal use for significant events, establishes stable collaboration with the club and formalises the club’s obligations. The agreement carries no cost for the city. It runs for four years, with an optional four-year extension.
It also advances the Benicalap Municipal Sports Centre, with the works project now sent to start contracting. Plans include a twin-hall pavilion and a heated pool with two basins, the main measuring 25x10 metres, plus changing and technical zones.
Outside, space is reserved for open-air courts and gardens, plus an exhibition park for remains of the former Molino de la Marquesa, with independent access.
The Municipal Sports Foundation has updated the scheme, valued at €11,270,045.06 including VAT, matching the base construction tender. Valencia have deposited this sum with the municipal treasury, plus a further five percent for archaeological works and reconstruction of the protected chimney.
The agreement also requires a photovoltaic roof at the Nou Mestalla to promote renewable energy, sustainability and technological innovation.
