Valencia CF and the wider football community gathered at the parish of San Josemaría Escrivá in València on Saturday for the funeral of Valencia Femenino B coach Fernando Martín and three of his children, who died following a shipwreck in Indonesia.
According to Superdeporte, the club was represented by general director Javier Solís alongside a large contingent from Valencia Femenino, while former Mestalla and Levante coach Paco López was also in attendance.
Valencia had already observed a minute's silence during their matchday 19 fixture in LALIGA EA SPORTS against Elche in memory of Martín and members of his family.
At the service, survivor Andrea Ortuño said the family, in immense pain yet at peace, remains committed to seeking justice without hatred or rancour to honour their loved ones and to carry on with dignity. She appealed to society not to forget them.
Their boat sank on 26 December in the waters of Komodo National Park. Ortuño was rescued with her seven-year-old daughter, but her daughter Lía, 12, her husband Fernando, and his son Mateo, nine, died. Quique, 10, the son of Ortuño and a former partner, remains missing.
In a statement released during the service, she conveyed the families' deep gratitude to those who supported them, including security forces and consular staff, praising their responsibility, respect and humanity. She also thanked the vast majority of media for their sensitivity and care.
She extended thanks to relatives and friends near and far, including in Uruguay, and to everyone who wrote, called or simply kept them in their thoughts. Ortuño also acknowledged the people of Labuan Bajo, the search teams, volunteers and especially the divers whose efforts went beyond the call of duty, adding teri makasih, Indonesian for thank you.
