Javi Guerra is possibly Valencia's key influence and the team rises when he is at full tilt. According to Superdeporte, the 23-year-old has underpinned Valencia's recent revivals, including this season's first win.

He debuted under Baraja in April in a defeat to Sevilla FC. Three games later he struck his first goal at the death against Valladolid after coming on in stoppage time, then started the final six league matches.

The next season he hit four goals after a flying start, but five defeats and two draws in the last seven scuppered a European push.

The 24/25 campaign began badly and Guerra dipped until Carlos Corberán arrived around Christmas. With the coach from Cheste everything changed, Valencia climbed from bottom to finish 12th, and Guerra contributed three goals and two assists.

Last season was his most productive, four goals and six assists, with another surge after the break. That improvement, team and player alike, was hard to separate, and he is a youth international.

This season Corberán lasted five matches, all with Guerra starting, but the football fell short. After his dismissal, Óscar Sánchez took over on a presumably temporary basis and Guerra controlled a poor Danjuma pass, beat his marker and slipped Rioja in to seal the first win of the season against Alavés. Once more, Valencia need their star and he needs motivation.
